Hi Reader I'm in Las Vegas this week for HIMSS26, one of the biggest healthcare conferences of the year. I've had dozens of conversations over the past few days — with providers, health system leaders, vendors, and innovators. And one theme keeps coming up in nearly every single one of them. After years of pilots and proof-of-concepts and "let's see how this goes," the practices and health systems that are winning right now are the ones that figured out how to make their tools actually work — inside real clinical workflows. The ones that are struggling? They adopted technology that lives alongside their workflow instead of inside it. The Real Reason Telehealth Doesn't Scale I see this pattern constantly. A practice launches Telehealth. It works well enough. But 6-12 months in, it starts to feel like a second job. Here's why:
None of those are Telehealth problems. They're workflow problems. And when technology creates more work than it eliminates, it doesn't get used — no matter how cool the new Tech is. What Scaling Actually Looks Like The organizations I've been talking to at HIMSS and the ones that we have successfully worked with that have successfully scaled virtual care all did something in common: they got ruthless about implementation. That means technology that:
The goal isn't more tools. It's fewer friction points. The Honest Question to Ask Yourself When you think about your current Telehealth setup — or the one you're considering — ask yourself one question: Does this make my team's day easier, or harder? If the answer is harder, it won't scale. The practices that thrive aren't the ones with the most technology. They're the ones that chose the right technology and implemented it in a way that actually sticks. This Week's Challenge: Look at your current Telehealth workflow and identify the one step that creates the most friction. Is it documentation? Scheduling? Billing? Patient communication? Just name it. You don't have to fix it today — but you need to know what it is before you can fix it at all.
