Hello Reader, Tuesday Telehealth Tip: Your EHR Should Play Well With Others Welcome to Part 1 of our October series on tech in behavioral health settings. Over the next four Tuesdays, we're tackling the tools that either make your week easier or quietly eat your evenings. This week: interoperability. It's a big word that mostly means "can your systems talk to each other without you acting as the interpreter?" If you've ever copied a session time from your scheduler into your EHR, then into Zoom, then into a reminder text, you've been doing interoperability by hand. You deserve better. Your wrists deserve better. What "playing well with others" actually looks like A well-connected practice lets information move once and land everywhere it needs to go. A client books an appointment, the video link generates on its own, the reminder goes out, and the note opens in the right chart. No sticky notes. No "wait, which link was it?" Three questions worth asking your EHR vendor this month:
Their answers will tell you a lot about how much of your week is spent being the human bridge between systems. How Zoom fits into the picture Zoom for Healthcare isn't just a video tool anymore. Larger organizations can launch Zoom visits directly from Epic, and Zoom has continued building out healthcare integrations this year, including ambient AI note-taking that syncs into Epic. Its app marketplace connects to a long list of other healthcare tools. ( see Zoom announcement from March 2026) For smaller behavioral health practices, the wins are usually simpler and just as valuable:
Where Secure Telehealth comes in Setting this up is rarely hard. It's just fiddly, and fiddly is where good intentions go to die. Secure Telehealth offers Zoom for Healthcare accounts bundled with real tech support. We help you get the BAA in place, configure your settings for clinical work, and connect Zoom to the tools you already use so your sessions, scheduling, and documentation run together instead of side by side. When something breaks, you call a person who knows your setup, not a ticket queue. This week's tip: Write down every place you re-type the same piece of information. That list is your interoperability roadmap. Next Tuesday: Outcomes without spreadsheets. Measurement-based care that runs itself. Talk soon, P.S. Here's your quick roundup of what happened in virtual care this week. Grab a coffee. It's short, I promise. The Big One: The DEA Rule Is Almost Here In 2008, Congress told the DEA to create a "special registration" so clinicians could prescribe controlled substances via telehealth. The deadline was 2019. It's now 2026, and the DEA has finally sent its final rule to the White House for review. To be fair, some of us have also had a project sitting at "almost done" for a while. The text isn't...
Hi Reader Consulting Services from Secure Telehealth What community health centers need from tech right now (and what you can borrow from them) September showed up with five Tuesdays this year. Instead of letting the extra one go to waste, I'm turning it into a bonus Tip. Think of it as the fries at the bottom of the bag: unexpected, and better than you'd think. Quick recap: we just wrapped our 4-part HIPAA & Trust series. We covered setting up a space patients trust, the HIPAA rules you...
Two Telehealth stories collided this week — and they're the perfect setup for what we've been covering all month. It's the American Telemedicine Association's sixth annual Telehealth Awareness Week (Sept 20–26). The headline number: veteran trust in VA Telehealth just hit 91.1%, rising for a sixth straight year. At the same time, CNN and the AP reported on FTC lawsuits against Hims & Hers, BetterHelp, and GoodRx for sharing customers' health data — including medication interests and, in some...
