What Pittsburgh's AI Horizons Revealed About the Future of Virtual Care This week's AI Horizons event in Pittsburgh brought together voices from Highmark, CMU, and Eli Lilly for a wide-ranging conversation on AI in healthcare. A few themes stood out as especially relevant to where virtual care is headed: Ambient AI Is Already Delivering Results Abridge and other AI documentation tools came up as the standout example of healthcare AI working in the real world today. Panelists pointed to real gains: less time spent on documentation after hours, more time with patients, and better experiences for both providers and patients. Ambient AI tools like this are quickly becoming standard infrastructure, and organizations rolling them out still need support with workflow integration, patient consent, and provider adoption, not just the software itself. This is where we fit in by the way. Telehealth Is Becoming Part of the Operating Model Highmark's Ian made a point that resonated: AI paired with Telehealth extends specialist reach, improves access, and lowers cost. Virtual care isn't a side project anymore. It's becoming core infrastructure for how health systems deliver care, which opens the door for more sophisticated virtual care operations. Precision Medicine Is Getting Real The panel discussed how AI is improving how patients are matched to treatments and clinical trials, and how outcomes get predicted. This trend depends on more remote monitoring and virtual engagement, meaning Telehealth and precision medicine are increasingly intertwined. Patients can now be managed remotely while receiving increasingly personalized care. The Takeaway Health systems are adopting new tools, but still struggling with implementation and success. That's where the real opportunity is. Need help? Check out the Profit and Freedom package below: Thanks for reading! -Dan P.S. Enjoying These Updates? Hi Reader futureofhealthnow.com HIPAA & Trust Series · Week 3 What Patients Actually Notice in the First Five Minutes Most practices spend their energy on the visit itself — the assessment, the treatment plan, the follow-up. But by the time you get there, patients have already formed an opinion about whether they trust you with their care. That opinion gets set in the first five minutes. Here's what patients are actually noticing, whether they say it out loud or not: How fast and clean the...
Is your AI tool making mistakes you don't know about? futureofhealthnow.com ECRI — the independent nonprofit that's tracked medical device safety issues for decades — just expanded its confidential Problem Reporting Network to cover AI errors, malfunctions, and near misses in patient care. That now includes ambient scribes, EHR-embedded clinical decision support, and patient-facing chatbots. The number that stood out: in ECRI's survey of 124 health leaders, 35% said they didn't even know...
